May it be...

I'm settling into the new job. A few niggles, the worst being I don't seem to have the creative energy I need at the moment, but I am getting there. I have managed to make a few things this week.

This is a gothic style birthday card. I sprayed some card with Lindy's sprays, then added black soot distress ink using a stencil. I glued on some fabric at the bottom with soft gel, then stamped a raven skull, colouring it with distress crayons and cutting it out. Finally I added a sentiment from Tim Holtz chit chat range.

Card number two. This is Lego inspired (obviously). I used a hole punch to make the bricks. I was going to cover the whole card till I realised how long a few took! Instead I cut out Happy Birthday in the same colours.

I decided to make a little poster for work, as it is a little dreary. I started by stamping, distressing and mounting some sentiments. I then got an A4 piece of paper, stamped and embossed the Visible Image stamp, then sprayed the background with a few Lindy's sprays before using distress ink with a few stencils.

all now must gather,
epic quest to undertake,
trek through endless fire

As I had four days off in a row this week, I decided to watch all six extended versions of Peter Jackson's Middle Earth films. Initially I was going to watch them all in one go, that is, until I saw the running time. So I portioned them out to two films a day. In order of course. Now, I know that lots of people hate the Hobbit trilogy and I will admit, they are flawed, but the issue is the inevitable comparison with the far superior LOTR trilogy. They were always going to fall short but I found them enjoyable, and they fleshed out the dwarves far more than Tolkien himself did. At least they all had individual characteristics, even if some scenes were a bit ridiculous. (Bomber and the barrel - I'm looking at you). The main flaws I found were the love triangle (completely superfluous, and in my opinion just playing on Aiden Turner's similarity to Viggo Mortenson.) The overuse of Legolas (especially the scene where he is jumping up the crumbling bridge - Mario anyone?) and I think that they should have swapped Alfred and Fili around. Not the actors but the runtime. Fili is the Crown Prince, yet he is hardly mentioned. Of the dwarves the favourite outside of the Durin line is Bofur (I think!) And I will say that Billy Boyd's song at the end of BOFA sums up the entire six films and is a fitting tribute to both the fans and the people who put so much work in.

I will never get tired of watching LOTR. The casting is perfect. Why Andy Serkis has not won awards for his portrayal of Gollum and Caesar is beyond me, and is an injustice I hope is rectified one day. The main difference between LOTR and the Hobbit is the special effects. Far more models were used in LOTR, and too much CGI was used in the Hobbit. Still, in my opinion they are the best series of films. Sacrilege I hear you cry, but it is my opinion, and I will always prefer Middle Earth to Star Wars and Hogwarts.

If you leave me now...

A colleague left this week, ready to start her police office training, so I made a funny card for her. I found the definition on Pinterest, then decided to do my own line up for the inside.  I've also been working on the stitch. Here's the update. Not as much done this week cos of Christmas.  Until next year,  Ems

What to do when you hit a wall?

Sorry guys, this is gonna be another pic-lite one. This is for two reasons. The first is because I decided to be a complete idiot the other day and crack my head open on the door at work, so I have to take things easy for a couple of days. The second is strange. I woke up the other day and it was as if someone had flipped a switch. All of the self-confidence that I had built up through my crafting over the last year has disappeared - just like that. I've spent the large majority of my life thinking that I am not good enough; in what I do, what I say, in short, in who I am. With crafts I was finally starting to believe in myself. So it is very hard at the moment, as I feel that I am right back at square one. I am hoping that this is temporary, and that I will soon feel myself again. I have to remind myself that I am very early in my crafting journey, and there are bound to be bumps along the way. I am aware that it is probably linked to my current state of high anxiety, as susta

Altering again!

My craft mojo came back! I decided to treat myself the other day to a new paper pad, and chose G45 Steampunk Spells. Graphic 45 papers are expensive but boy are they worth it! I wish I'd got into them sooner as there are some older pads that are gorgeous, but unavailable now. Anyway, once I got the pad and overcame the urge to just admire the paper and do nothing with it, I got to work. I decided to try to make something to enter into a couple of challenges, namely the  Craft room something old, something new challenge  and  That's Crafty! Girl power challenge . The first thing to do was to decide what to make. I was going to do a card, but then I found this: This was a cutlery drawer that a friend gave me. To be honest I have been using it to store sharpies in, but no more. Here it is now: What a change! I started by painting it in black acrylic, then got to work on each section. I used the Clockworks paper for the background, cut out some clocks fro
