Already a twelfth of the way through the year...

Where does the time go? When I was a kid those six weeks of summer seemed so long, now I'm older time seems to be moving ever faster. Too fast sometimes. This month I will turn 32, and I still feel like I'm not an adult.

Today will be a stitchy post, as that is what I have been doing. I've been splitting my time between different projects as the Beauty and the Beast stitch is ahead of schedule at the present time.

Here is where I am - you'll notice that while I worked almost mini square by mini square with the left hand side, I've been a bit random so far on the rest. It's funny how there looks like loads of gaps on the stitch, but on the pattern it seems somehow fuller.

I dug through my stash and found a couple of bookmark style pieces of aida. The first is for myself. I found an alphabet stitch online and used black to stitch a LOTR quote. I haven't finished yet, I want to do a background for it.

Here is the second one. I have decided to only show a part of it until it's done. As you can see there is a quote on there in different alphabet stitch (larger quote and vertical instead of horizontal). The background is going to be simple stripes of colour. Basically I'm trying to use up my part of my stash.

The other major piece which I'm going to be starting soon is the Heaven and Earth Designs middle earth map. As the first month of exercising and no fizzy drinks was a complete success (not even craving fizzy anymore) I bought the aida and threads I need for it as my treat. It cost a whopping £69 to get the threads (and that's at 40p a thread) and the aida is 40 inches by 50 inches!

Speaking of resolutions, here is my first month update.

1. No fizzy drinks - as I've said, I've now come to the point where I'm no longer craving them. Not only that, I don't feel as tired as I used to.

2. Exercise every day - still using my kettlebell every morning plus walking/cycling every day as well. I've not noticed too much of a difference weight wise yet (well, clothes fit wise - I don't weigh myself) but I do feel better in myself.

3. Save £250 - I've put that into my ISA so no problems there

4. Beauty and the Beast stitch - ahead of schedule as you can see above

5. First draft of one book - The Ghost Lights has begun! I'm sticking to 500 words a day as that worked for LAAC.

What to do when you hit a wall?

Sorry guys, this is gonna be another pic-lite one. This is for two reasons. The first is because I decided to be a complete idiot the other day and crack my head open on the door at work, so I have to take things easy for a couple of days. The second is strange. I woke up the other day and it was as if someone had flipped a switch. All of the self-confidence that I had built up through my crafting over the last year has disappeared - just like that. I've spent the large majority of my life thinking that I am not good enough; in what I do, what I say, in short, in who I am. With crafts I was finally starting to believe in myself. So it is very hard at the moment, as I feel that I am right back at square one. I am hoping that this is temporary, and that I will soon feel myself again. I have to remind myself that I am very early in my crafting journey, and there are bound to be bumps along the way. I am aware that it is probably linked to my current state of high anxiety, as susta

Altering again!

My craft mojo came back! I decided to treat myself the other day to a new paper pad, and chose G45 Steampunk Spells. Graphic 45 papers are expensive but boy are they worth it! I wish I'd got into them sooner as there are some older pads that are gorgeous, but unavailable now. Anyway, once I got the pad and overcame the urge to just admire the paper and do nothing with it, I got to work. I decided to try to make something to enter into a couple of challenges, namely the  Craft room something old, something new challenge  and  That's Crafty! Girl power challenge . The first thing to do was to decide what to make. I was going to do a card, but then I found this: This was a cutlery drawer that a friend gave me. To be honest I have been using it to store sharpies in, but no more. Here it is now: What a change! I started by painting it in black acrylic, then got to work on each section. I used the Clockworks paper for the background, cut out some clocks fro

If you leave me now...

A colleague left this week, ready to start her police office training, so I made a funny card for her. I found the definition on Pinterest, then decided to do my own line up for the inside.  I've also been working on the stitch. Here's the update. Not as much done this week cos of Christmas.  Until next year,  Ems
