Project 15

Todays project is Punk Princess, and is designed by Dee Paramour, which is a steampunk style name isn't it! Anyway, here is hers.

(Can you tell I've spilt something on this page? Nice and wrinkled isn't it!)

The thing that you have to keep in mind when planning your version of a piece is what supplies you have, what lessons you want to take from that particular piece and, above all, who the recipient is. That being said, I decided to bypass the pink and the lady (as the recipient is not a pink person and I don't have any decent lady stamps) and take from this piece the idea of masking, and inking an embossed piece. Here is my version.

I like the idea of doing a card that isn't folded exactly in half, so that you can put a little extra on the edge, and some pieces that can overlap. It's also the first time I've used some of the masks I got free with a magazine aaaaages ago. Obviously the theme is completely different from the original, but the layout and the techniques are the same. One thing I still can't get the hang of is inking the background with alcohol inks. I don't know whether I am using too much ink and not enough water, or whether the card I have is too absorbent. Still, inked at the edge with barn door distress ink pad it works ok.

It feels like I've not done much this week, which I will try to rectify next week. I have started another birthday project, but am waiting on something before I can continue.

On that note, onto the spends! Mum gave me my £12.50 back. I used it to get five A6 notebooks (will be altering them from crafts and presents) a Crafts Beautiful magazine (I haven't had this magazine in a while and the tool set it came with is what attracted me to it, but the magazine itself disappointed me) some custard donuts and chocolate eclairs, and I put the remainder into a charity box.
On Wednesday I bought two Cornish Guardians (£2.20) as I was in them trying to sell my book. Unfortunately it's still not selling well, but at least I'm trying. I then bought cat biscuits, crisps, cat tins, apple shampoo, weetabix, grated cheese, houmous, baked potatoes, and a banana loaf for £12.95.

Then I had to take £10 out of my account as I finished a twelve hour shift, got halfway home and realised I'd left my phone at work! I was off the next day so I had to walk back. By the time I did, my feet were killing me, so I took a taxi home £4. I used the remaining £6 to get some cod gratin (special offer and it was something I'd wanted to try for a while) some Dr Pepper (I'm not sure why I buy this to be honest) and some grapes. Finally I bought a few things from Amazon. I bought some black paint (£3.33) as mine had run out, some Rangers multi matte medium (£4.95) for an upcoming project, and I decided to treat myself to a little birthday present, getting Kili's rune stone for £11.99. It may seem a lot for a stone but it is an official Weta piece, and a lot cheaper than some of the souvenirs I could get!

Here is the task update

1. Starry Night cross stitch (on page 3)
2. Complete project book (15/21)
3. Complete book plans for 2 and 3 (a little progress)
4. Read and review 100 books (29/100)
5. Make 15 christmas presents (no progress)
6. Make 12 birthday presents (6/12)
7. Make calendar, box and tags (made tags)
8. Hit minimum savings target (12.9%)
9. Kili cross stitch (no progress)
10. 50,000 words (no progress)

Happy crafting everyone!

  1. I really REALLY like your version of the project Ems. I like the colours and tones, and the 'string'? (is that string - wool maybe?) is an inspired idea and suits the card.

Like you, I like cards which open in a different place than the norm, as it can make a card seem more special to the recipient.

I think you've done a really great job with that card Ems, and I like it all.

Well done you clever crafty thing. You're so far ahead of where you started, y'know. You're using techniques which you probably never even knew about when you first began, and you should be puffing your chest up and being very proud of what you're now acheiving. I think you're brilliant.

Oh ... thanks for the comment on my blog post. Very much appreciated. I love it when you visit. It's like an old friend dropping in and surprising me, and I just love it. So thank you, bigly.
Sending love and crafty hugs ~ Cobs. x

    1. Thanks Cobs, and can I just say you're a bad influence? ;) Saw those flowers on your latest card and had to order the tattered floral garland!

What to do when you hit a wall?

Sorry guys, this is gonna be another pic-lite one. This is for two reasons. The first is because I decided to be a complete idiot the other day and crack my head open on the door at work, so I have to take things easy for a couple of days. The second is strange. I woke up the other day and it was as if someone had flipped a switch. All of the self-confidence that I had built up through my crafting over the last year has disappeared - just like that. I've spent the large majority of my life thinking that I am not good enough; in what I do, what I say, in short, in who I am. With crafts I was finally starting to believe in myself. So it is very hard at the moment, as I feel that I am right back at square one. I am hoping that this is temporary, and that I will soon feel myself again. I have to remind myself that I am very early in my crafting journey, and there are bound to be bumps along the way. I am aware that it is probably linked to my current state of high anxiety, as susta

If you leave me now...

A colleague left this week, ready to start her police office training, so I made a funny card for her. I found the definition on Pinterest, then decided to do my own line up for the inside.  I've also been working on the stitch. Here's the update. Not as much done this week cos of Christmas.  Until next year,  Ems

Altering again!

My craft mojo came back! I decided to treat myself the other day to a new paper pad, and chose G45 Steampunk Spells. Graphic 45 papers are expensive but boy are they worth it! I wish I'd got into them sooner as there are some older pads that are gorgeous, but unavailable now. Anyway, once I got the pad and overcame the urge to just admire the paper and do nothing with it, I got to work. I decided to try to make something to enter into a couple of challenges, namely the  Craft room something old, something new challenge  and  That's Crafty! Girl power challenge . The first thing to do was to decide what to make. I was going to do a card, but then I found this: This was a cutlery drawer that a friend gave me. To be honest I have been using it to store sharpies in, but no more. Here it is now: What a change! I started by painting it in black acrylic, then got to work on each section. I used the Clockworks paper for the background, cut out some clocks fro
