Project Eight

This weeks project was called Dreams and designed by Tracey Laughton. Here is the original one

I'm not sure why this has ended up on its side because the original picture is the right way round. Hmmm. Anyway, I decided to go through the Countryview Crafts goody box I recently purchased in order to do something a little different with this one. Here is my version.

I painted the shadow box with two shades of blue paint, but didn't add any flowers stamp wise because it just didn't work for some reason. I also didn't have any embossing powder (I keep umming and aahing about whether to buy some or not, but I've decided not to)

The goody box had the perfect solution. The Ten Second Studio metal sheets. I found some in a deep blue, then die cut some flowers. After I had cut them, I embossed them with a feathers embossing folder, then sanded them lightly so that the feather pattern became silver. I added a gold pearl to the centre of each one.

You'll notice as well that the Love sentiment is done in the same way. I have one of the christmas emboss and die cut sets from Sizzix, which up until now I haven't used, so I thought it was the perfect match for the flowers.

I'm glad I have plenty of the foil in different colours, because I love the effects and I will definitely be using this technique again.

As well as this, I have been continuing my work on the starry night cross stitch. Here is the update so far

As you can see, I'm still on page one. I only have two colours left to go on this and then I can start on the second page. For some reason this stitch seems to be taking me ages; I started this almost three months ago and I'm still on the first page. After this I have seven more to do (and have already decided the order) so I've got plenty to finish.

Slightly off topic, this reminds me of the Towers in LOTR. I watched the last Hobbit the other day. I recommend seeing it. There are a few faults, as there are in most book to film adaptations, but overall I think it's a suitable film to complete the Middle Earth film series, and I can't wait till next November so I can watch all six extended films together.

Sticking with Middle Earth, how can the Dark Lord scare so many people when he's so cute?

Sauron, in Pop Vinyl form.

One last thing, and I know I'm harping on about this but it is the most important thing to me at the moment. If you want a good book to read, a dystopian novel with a difference, please follow this link.

It means a hell of a lot to me that I get support over this. Depression has kept me under its thumb for too long now, but depression also led to this work. It's a double edged sword.

Anyway, happy crafting everyone

What to do when you hit a wall?

Sorry guys, this is gonna be another pic-lite one. This is for two reasons. The first is because I decided to be a complete idiot the other day and crack my head open on the door at work, so I have to take things easy for a couple of days. The second is strange. I woke up the other day and it was as if someone had flipped a switch. All of the self-confidence that I had built up through my crafting over the last year has disappeared - just like that. I've spent the large majority of my life thinking that I am not good enough; in what I do, what I say, in short, in who I am. With crafts I was finally starting to believe in myself. So it is very hard at the moment, as I feel that I am right back at square one. I am hoping that this is temporary, and that I will soon feel myself again. I have to remind myself that I am very early in my crafting journey, and there are bound to be bumps along the way. I am aware that it is probably linked to my current state of high anxiety, as susta

Altering again!

My craft mojo came back! I decided to treat myself the other day to a new paper pad, and chose G45 Steampunk Spells. Graphic 45 papers are expensive but boy are they worth it! I wish I'd got into them sooner as there are some older pads that are gorgeous, but unavailable now. Anyway, once I got the pad and overcame the urge to just admire the paper and do nothing with it, I got to work. I decided to try to make something to enter into a couple of challenges, namely the  Craft room something old, something new challenge  and  That's Crafty! Girl power challenge . The first thing to do was to decide what to make. I was going to do a card, but then I found this: This was a cutlery drawer that a friend gave me. To be honest I have been using it to store sharpies in, but no more. Here it is now: What a change! I started by painting it in black acrylic, then got to work on each section. I used the Clockworks paper for the background, cut out some clocks fro

If you leave me now...

A colleague left this week, ready to start her police office training, so I made a funny card for her. I found the definition on Pinterest, then decided to do my own line up for the inside.  I've also been working on the stitch. Here's the update. Not as much done this week cos of Christmas.  Until next year,  Ems
